We've made some big changes to the AOL.com homepage recently that represent the start of an evolution of the home page design. In the coming weeks, we will be introducing new features and making changes to address the feedback that we've received from you, our users, since we rolled out the beta test of our new home page back in April.
We are also happy to introduce AOL Homepage Blog as a forum to help us keep you updated on what's new and what's coming soon, and to let you tell us what you think. More importantly, unlike a survey or a "feedback form," this blog helps us establish an ongoing conversation with you. You provide us feedback and we look to respond. Having this dialogue with you is a critical element to help us build the best possible products, and we recognize that not having had one until now was a missed opportunity that we are excited to address.
So the obvious question, why are we changing AOL.com now?
The new AOL.com represents the first major change to the home page design since 2005, when we first began transitioning of all of our products from the traditional AOL "walled garden" to the open Web (Basically, when we stopped charging for subscriptions and made our content free to everyone). Admittedly, the current AOL.com design has some flaws. It represents some outdated design standards, features and thinking. We've learned a lot over the last two years and we're putting that knowledge to use to make our product better.
One of the most important things we've learned over the years is that you have choices. You make the choice to visit AOL.com and we need to work hard to keep you here. And we've spent the last year working to design a new version of AOL.com that's faster, easier to use, more relevant and more customizable to make your online experience better. We hope you think the new AOL.com hits the mark. But if you don't, that's OK too. Please let us know by using this blog. Let us know what you like, what you don't like and what you think we're missing. While we may not be able to respond to every request, we will be reading all of your feedback. And hopefully, we will shed some light on our thought process, and why we do the things we do. All we ask is that you keep your comments constructive and focused on the homepage.
So we're just getting started! We hope that you will check in with us often. We'll be here ...
Cheers,
Lisa

P.S. I keep using the word "we" because running AOL.com isn't a one-person operation. There's a small team of talented and passionate people who support the home page. And I'll be introducing you to the team (my friends and colleagues) that works behind the scenes in the coming weeks.

Lisa: I read your comments and many of the ones on this BLOG...
I agreee that long time customers like myself will ACTIVLY be looking for alternative options and move to them as soon as we find an easier, faster cheaper version.
IO gree that you have NO way of letting cuteomers ask for support with specifics excetp for this blog.. Why do I have to position my dirty laundry with EVERYONE, and not make good suggestions to AOL???
lastly: I coould care LES about who the heck your team is. Just make the SYSTems, email, xdrive etc. work.. period. Upgrading is a plus only if it FIXES or IMPROVES. In my case you have completely cut me off from my added storage on xdrive.
Please bone up on Customer Service Delivery...
Regards

why am am i not getting a response to my initial report?
does this just float around in blogville..??
I'm dead serious. I will take my account and move elsewhere...means nothing to me...i'll still be internetting, but someone else will be getting my money.
AOL has until Monday to respond to my problem.
I did not post just to have my say added to your growing list.
I'm still sitting @ $25+ monthly. If you wish to project that for the past 15 years, that's some change.
Get it together AOL.

I'M USING A MAC WITH SYSTEM 1.3 AND EVERY TIME I TRY TO GET MY EMAIL IT TELLS ME THAT IT DOESN'T SUPPORT MY SYSTEM.
I'M NOT GOING TO SPEND $175 FOR A NEW SYSTEM JUST FOR AOL.
I'LL JUST CANCEL AOL IF IT'S NOT FIXED SOON.

I have had AOL since I went on line and I am seriously considering changing. The new screen sucks. This new AOL is not user friendly. Takes you what seems a life time to figure out where you need to click to get where you want to go. The new E-mail and buddy list are not easy to get to. I can no longer see who is online when my buddy list is open. Please put the old AOL back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two problems with the email:
1. Sometimes I want to use "my signature". Sometimes I don't. The old aol email software used to give me the option each time I sent an email. Now, I either have to have the "my signature" feature on all the time or off all the time.
2. I often begin typing an email that I want to be sent then change my mind. There is no "x" in the upper right corner to get out of emails you decide not to send. Instead, I am required to navigate thru multiple steps just to get back to the new mail page.

I'm considering going to high speed cable internet, but answerssuch as:how do I retain your info. such as address book, your web address, how to notify to discontinue monthly billing (which I hear "good luck!!). If your trying to become another yahoo your existing customer need more direct, specfic guidance. (To rely on the cable personnel is folly!)
Thanks, CPB

This system is crap. I finally get accustomed to a system, get conned into taking a 'tour' and the new junk, with all its bells and whistles has taken over. I can't stand to wait to go 'back'. I want that button in the upper left corner, and don't want to wait for it. Even a second is too long, since the prior, older, slower, supposedly obsolete homepage was faster. How do I get back to what I liked and used with ease? I want my old system back. Any suggestions? What these computer fools say new + improved, it means problems for us lay-people. AOL could do better than this crap.

not everybody is as computer savvy as AOL thinks they are, because if AOL was really computer literate they would have listened to everybody from the novice to literate they would have kept AOL easier and changed certain things NOT THE WHOLE LAYOUT!!!!!! From the freezing mail to the steady flow of AOL NOT RESPONDING to the missing favorites link to where is the tab to switch to another user to trying to understand the people you talk to when you call in to trying to get help with any problems when you get thru and can understand the person on other end of phone. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR(NOTHING FOR NOTHING)

In the last 48 hours I have had three emails, two to Yahoo.de and one to sbcglobal returned - with a note from Yahoo that they are not be delivered for "policy reasons". What's going on, trade war? The reference is UP and I think code 550. These are routine family messages.

Actually, the left side with all the links to go different places should just be a drop down menu. It take up too much space. None of those links I need. Also, offer a sign in area. And again, offer ALL folders on the start/home page. It says all folders at the bottom so just offer the option to see all folders instead of having to leave the page to see all folders.

I am constantly getting messages that the "email content I requested is not available." I also have to constantly logoff and logon, and many times, logoff the software becuase it freezes up and won't let me do anything. I have been an AOL member for over 20 years, but I'm getting ready to leave if you don't fix this horrible experience.

Just a note on your home page. I have no problem with the new home page for myself. However, I wonder if it is appropriate to have the advertisement like: Paris Hilton Unsensored shower-click free...or BORED with sexy women in scanty underwear. There must be a number of very young, impressionable kids going on line (w/o parental supervision.) They have plenty of time to get interested in sexy women, etc. I think if an adult (18 & over )is interested in watching these video's, then there should be a way it can be advertised; but restricted to adults only. I don't have a problem with it-just a thought regarding the younger generation. Thank you

why is it that everytime I go to my homepage (aol.com), the screen makes me decide if I want to take a tour. I have had aol for quite some time and now I have to deal with that pop up everytime I turn on my computer. Is there anyway to remove this?

Sleubanks,
We apologize for the inconvenience. Users were only meant to see that one time. My team just disabled that pop-up so you shouldn't see again. Just curious, do you happen to clear your cookies a lot?
Again, we apologize. But I want to thank you for highlighting the issue so that we could fix.
Best,
Lisa
