We've made some big changes to the AOL.com homepage recently that represent the start of an evolution of the home page design. In the coming weeks, we will be introducing new features and making changes to address the feedback that we've received from you, our users, since we rolled out the beta test of our new home page back in April.
We are also happy to introduce AOL Homepage Blog as a forum to help us keep you updated on what's new and what's coming soon, and to let you tell us what you think. More importantly, unlike a survey or a "feedback form," this blog helps us establish an ongoing conversation with you. You provide us feedback and we look to respond. Having this dialogue with you is a critical element to help us build the best possible products, and we recognize that not having had one until now was a missed opportunity that we are excited to address.
So the obvious question, why are we changing AOL.com now?
The new AOL.com represents the first major change to the home page design since 2005, when we first began transitioning of all of our products from the traditional AOL "walled garden" to the open Web (Basically, when we stopped charging for subscriptions and made our content free to everyone). Admittedly, the current AOL.com design has some flaws. It represents some outdated design standards, features and thinking. We've learned a lot over the last two years and we're putting that knowledge to use to make our product better.
One of the most important things we've learned over the years is that you have choices. You make the choice to visit AOL.com and we need to work hard to keep you here. And we've spent the last year working to design a new version of AOL.com that's faster, easier to use, more relevant and more customizable to make your online experience better. We hope you think the new AOL.com hits the mark. But if you don't, that's OK too. Please let us know by using this blog. Let us know what you like, what you don't like and what you think we're missing. While we may not be able to respond to every request, we will be reading all of your feedback. And hopefully, we will shed some light on our thought process, and why we do the things we do. All we ask is that you keep your comments constructive and focused on the homepage.
So we're just getting started! We hope that you will check in with us often. We'll be here ...
Cheers,
Lisa

P.S. I keep using the word "we" because running AOL.com isn't a one-person operation. There's a small team of talented and passionate people who support the home page. And I'll be introducing you to the team (my friends and colleagues) that works behind the scenes in the coming weeks.

Rick,
I apologize for the inconvenience and are passing your feedback along to the Mail team. I'm not sure if this will help address your problems, but I know that Mail released a Basic Version of the product designed for older Operating Systems and slower connections. Again, not sure if you fit this criteria or not, but you may want to give the Basic Version of Mail a try. Here's a link to the Mail Blog post about the new release: http://journals.aol.com/websuiteblog/productinsider/entries/2007/08/16/web-suite-basic-beta-is-here-and-new-features-too/266
You may also find other useful information on the new Mail Product there. I hope this helps!
Best,
Lisa

Hi there,
We're sorry that you don't like the new homepage, but we old not bringing back the old version of AOL.com. Overall, people like the new version better than the previous.
That said, we are interested in learning what we can do to make it better for you. You mentioned performance as an issue for you. Are you on dial-up or broadband? Are there particular areas of the page that are slower than others?
Best,
Lisa

I so dislike the new internet aol. I use dial up at home and it is faster than this new one. And I do have broadband at work. Has anyone also noticed that after your email has been sent, a whole bunch of question marks get added to your statements, giving your readers the impression that you are an idiot and know nothing of punctuation? Really embarrassing if you are a professional writer. It takes forever to scroll down to highlight an email that I want to read. I am graying in my chair as I wait for it to take an "action" like delete, save, keep as new, etc....please fix the problem before I go back to yahoo. I love my old aol screen even though is does not alphabetize my saved mail folders....just call me going crazy in texas

I despise the Netflix add that is appearing on my homepage, and would like to have it removed.

I realize this isn't the right forum for this comment, but I've been unable to find another one.
My gripe is with the change in AOL's security offerings. Going from Kapersky to MacAfee was the most idiotic thing they could have done. As one of countless PC owners who've had to spend hours trying (unsucessfully) to get MacAfee's crappy software OFF of our systems, there's about zero chance of me using AOL's current junkware. Guess it's time to try Komodo or go back to Grisoft. Thanks for nothing aol.

Your new format sucks, is hard to navigate, and has too many bugs! What are you doing?

Please get rid of the pop-up advertising that I have to look at when I open "my" e-mail. I have used aol for many years, but it has gotten REALLY IRRITATING!!

We are DoD workers: me, I teach and my daughter attends schools. We live in Germany and have lived in Japan and Turkey. AOL is missing out. The features are friendly, but you do not recognize AE or APO or any military addresses.
Why? A whole segment of dedicated Americans like myself supporting the troops and the troops overseas. Shame on AOL.

Hello -
I have finally gotten around to telling you how much I dislike seeing the "sticking tongue out" emoticon while I wait for my mail to load. I find it insulting. I would never type that emoticon to anyone, and believe that AOL is offending me purposefully. Please stop it.

I do not want to change to your new AOL. At one time I had this and I had nothing but problems. I would try to get my mail and the little guy?? would be running (seemed like an eternity) then I would get "Sorry error, try again". This went on for over 3 weeks. I couldn't get mail, and I couldn't write mail. It was ONE BIG MESS. I tried to contact you to no avail. If you finally answered me. I was told it you would get back to me at a later date. You never answered any of my emails. So PLEASE DON't take away the old aim as this is the only way I can get my mail or write mail. I also lost most of my folders. I am into genealogy and some of the folders had information I can't replace.
Would appreciate an anwer concerning this delema. Thanks

thanks again.

As far as the videos go, the videos do not play. AOL ask you for feedback and you get HALF a comment card! ANYONE paying $20 a month for AOL piss poor Internet service must be out of their freaking minds! SUCH TECHNICAL INCOMPETENCE!

It would appear that there are just waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many of you out there who haven't realized YET that AOL doesn't give one iota whether we, the customers, are happy w/their service or NOT as is the case w/myself and apparently many others! I have tried to receive some sort of customer service for months to NO avail - AOL just does NOT give a rat's butt if we stay w/them or not - so SAD!!!

My "write email" keeps jumping to "update" and wiping out my messages. The random "updates" should not interrupt user activities. This is extremely annoying and will lead me to go elsewhere with my business.
