We've made some big changes to the AOL.com homepage recently that represent the start of an evolution of the home page design. In the coming weeks, we will be introducing new features and making changes to address the feedback that we've received from you, our users, since we rolled out the beta test of our new home page back in April.
We are also happy to introduce AOL Homepage Blog as a forum to help us keep you updated on what's new and what's coming soon, and to let you tell us what you think. More importantly, unlike a survey or a "feedback form," this blog helps us establish an ongoing conversation with you. You provide us feedback and we look to respond. Having this dialogue with you is a critical element to help us build the best possible products, and we recognize that not having had one until now was a missed opportunity that we are excited to address.
So the obvious question, why are we changing AOL.com now?
The new AOL.com represents the first major change to the home page design since 2005, when we first began transitioning of all of our products from the traditional AOL "walled garden" to the open Web (Basically, when we stopped charging for subscriptions and made our content free to everyone). Admittedly, the current AOL.com design has some flaws. It represents some outdated design standards, features and thinking. We've learned a lot over the last two years and we're putting that knowledge to use to make our product better.
One of the most important things we've learned over the years is that you have choices. You make the choice to visit AOL.com and we need to work hard to keep you here. And we've spent the last year working to design a new version of AOL.com that's faster, easier to use, more relevant and more customizable to make your online experience better. We hope you think the new AOL.com hits the mark. But if you don't, that's OK too. Please let us know by using this blog. Let us know what you like, what you don't like and what you think we're missing. While we may not be able to respond to every request, we will be reading all of your feedback. And hopefully, we will shed some light on our thought process, and why we do the things we do. All we ask is that you keep your comments constructive and focused on the homepage.
So we're just getting started! We hope that you will check in with us often. We'll be here ...
Cheers,
Lisa
AOL.com Product Lead
P.S. I keep using the word "we" because running AOL.com isn't a one-person operation. There's a small team of talented and passionate people who support the home page. And I'll be introducing you to the team (my friends and colleagues) that works behind the scenes in the coming weeks.

This is mind numbing, I can't get into e-mail. The only reason I go to AOL is e-mail. I couldn't give a crap about panels or colors or news all I want is my e-mail.....

I have all kinds of issues. First and foremost being that I cannot seem to resolve pc issues with the AOL program. So basically, I am still a paying customer but tech support is unable to find the cause of my pc issues and so I am now paying for nothing. I am using AOL through IE6. You took pogo games away except for 5 we were supposed to be able to play every month to be changed once a month. The changes occur alot less often. The games are not the ones I would prefer to play and as of today it looks like I am also unable to compete on pogo for prizes. I still use the McAfee Antivirus program and the computer check up. Other than that, which I can all get for free now, there is no benefit to AOL. I still use the mailbox but the format and quality are way below what I used to have. It runs so slowly that it is downright torturous. The only part of it that I like is being able to delete multiple messages all at once or empty an entire folder. I do love that part but again, I still do not have to pay so I am not really getting anything a free user would not get also. I have no reason to pay $25 a month any more so I plan to drop the service entirely. Thanks for making AOL so much better.

I just got an e-mail from bill@aol.com that seems fishy. It carried me to a site that had the physical appearance of a legitimate AOL site, but the message was strange. It said that AOL was about to purge my screen name unless I took steps to keep it. Among these was that I fill in personal data and my credit card information. I did not bite. Please confirm that this message is not true, and if not true, you should investigate.

Sometimes when I try to add events to my online Calendar the Event dialog box malfunctions & states that it has encoutered a problem & cannot continue, so occasionaly my events remain un-entered. Also the space which says 'add a location' doesn't have enough room to enter a full address, so I end up entering it in the notes section! I wish AOL would finally integrate their Calendar with PLAXO, it sould be so much easier, thanks!

Why does my mail reload from my homepage everytime I try to open an e-mail message? This is suppose to be an improvement.
If I just use AOL as my homepage it does the same thing. You should have left it alone. I shouldn't have to load my mail everytime.

The sending of e-mails to recipients is no longer easily done because the folder with my list of email recipients is not available like before. Now you have to type in the first letter of the last name to get a list of the names to choose from.

Greetings,
Its nice to know that you are trying to improve the new AOL. I bet freezing of AOL and it not able to open has been an issue. I pray that in future, we will be able to enjoy opening our e-mails in time and that AOL will not be going off almost all the time.
Thanks a lot for what you are doing.
Keep on doing your best!
