After months of Beta testing, we are pleased announce that the new AOL.com Homepage has been released to all users! Today's release includes a mix of popular Beta features plus a few new ones that we're really excited about, and hope you feel the same.
And while it's tempting to outline all of the features released today, we don't want to overwhelm you with information. We will, instead, introduce a new feature each week here on the Homepage Blog so we can go into greater detail about the feature and supporting functionality, as well as get more focused feedback and comments from you along the way.
So this week's Feature Spotlight is on one of the new homepage customization options; the Color Picker.
The new default homepage color was one of the commented topics during our Beta period. And while we went with a more neutral color (ecru, yes ecru), your opinions were far from "neutral". Some of you love the new default color, and some of you hate it. And while we appreciate your passion, color is a very personal and subjective thing. So we're getting out of your way and giving you a set of color options so you can decide what color makes the AOL.com Homepage more like your home.
And changing the color of your homepage couldn't be easier. Just go to the color picker in the top right corner of the page and click on the color "chicklet" you like best. It's that easy! So if you're feeling inspired, go back to AOL.com and change the color of your homepage now!
We will be introducing new colors in the near future, so let us know what color options you want to see on the homepage. And while you're at it, let us know what you think of the current set. We hope you visit us again for next week's Feature Spotlight.
Best,
Lisa
AOL.com Product Lead
P.S. We're still seeing a lot of comments regarding Mail issues. And while Mail is featured prominently on the AOL.com Homepage, my team does not support the Mail product and can't help resolve problems. The best and fastest way for you to get help with Mail related issues is to go to the Mail Technical Support Msg. Board for assistance.
My Name is Lisa and I'm the Product Lead for AOL.COM. In short, I lead the team that designs, builds the new versions of AOL.com and make sure that current experience run smoothly. My mission (the team's mission) is to build the best home page for you and everyone that visits AOL.com. This is definitely NOT a one person operation. It takes a village! And I'll be introducing you to the team behind the scenes in the coming weeks.

41. What did you do with "Favorite Places"??? I can't find it anywhere on the new page and I used it all the time. Also, I find the new page entirely too complicated and it's too difficult to get into mail... Also, how do you send IMs??? I think the new page is a bust!!! Too much too fast...

42. Can't get to the Finance section - the page is just blank. This has been going on since the change. Congratulations, AOL, another snafu.

43. I click on articles and it sends me to a "blank" place. Is this a look into the programmers mind? I must click back and click on the article again and about once every three or four tries I get to read what I want. Not very user friendly if you ask me.

48. It looks ok, but it's totally non-functional for me. When I click on a link I get taken to a blank page. The only thing that seems to work is Mail. What a waste of time. I'm so glad I only visit the aol.com page, and don't use AOL as my browser anymore. I'm seriously thinking about just going through the hassle of changing my email address and just leaving AOL altogether.

50. Hate it. Everything takes too long to load. Changing something that worked so well for something that is so bad was stupid. Bring back the old or really fix this Yahoo copies new one.

52. What do I think? I think you need to do a much better job of updating/maintaining the site! I've encountered more links to fresh news items in the last few days that go nowhere or when they finish loading, give you nothing but a blank screen, than I have in the past year! I'm also getting quite a few "Web page not found" errors when trying to get back to the home page where I have to execute a refresh to get past the error, sometimes more than once.

53. Switched to the new AOL yesterday. Ever since, the homepage opens fine but then opening any news item brings a blank screen.
Bottom legend says "done" but what's done is driving me back to Yahoo.

54. I too am sick & tired of finding the page changed almost every time I log onto AOL! I can't read all the message unless I scroll over all of the time. Seems to me you guys are bored and feel we need constant changes - leave a good thing alone - go count the cars on the freeway instead!

55. For two days now, everytime I try to go to www.aol.com I get an error screen that the page is not found. I would think that this should not be happening. I have not done anything to IE to have this happen. To get around this, I have to go to a redirected page that came from your main page, and then hit the AOL Main page at the top to get to the main page again.

56. This is a bonafide disaster. Just to name a few of the problems - often you cannot open your mailbox and cannot send mail. Sometimes when you click on various icons a window pops up saying something to the effect that you can't access the information and to try later. The best was opening the home page this afternoon, getting into my mail, then returning to the homepage only to have this morning's homepage pop up with the Dow Jones numbers being up by 5 some odd points when in reality it was up at the close 150! The long and the short of it is that before you implement such a dramatic change, you should make sure that there are no bugs. Basic business common sense - it appears the AOL is lacking in this department. Seriously considering changing.

57. I don't like it at all! Every time I click on ANYTHING I get a message box stating that it is not available. This does not happen on any other sites.

58. You morons should leave everything alone. Ever heard of "If it ain't broke..."? This totally sucks!!! One more time and I'm through with aol FOREVER!!!!! suxsuxsuxsuxsuxsuxsuxsuxsuxsuxsuxihateitihateitihateitihateit

59. Lisa, this is my 2nd gripe in two days. I depend on AOL for my financial news & my portfolio. With this "new AOL" I had real frustration finding and using the portfolio yesterday. Today I cant seem to get the news associated with a particular stock to show up on the screen. May I ask where you folks received your training & experience? I am a retired guy with 40 years experience programming, debugging and implementing new versions and original software. I must confess that having gone thru all the versions of AOL to date, this is the worst fiasco I have ever seen in all my world class software ventures. Please, for gods sake bring some sanity into this mess. I strongly urge some very senior VP take a look at the complaints. If I do not see some rapid change very soon, I will abandon you after being a loyal AOL user since 1998. Morris Foutch
