Mother's Day is this weekend and families across America are scratching their heads trying to think of the perfect gift to honor their mom. So to help out in that effort, we asked over 7,000 moms on AOL.com to pick from a list of different gift items that appealed to them for Mother's Day.

Before we reveal the results, let's just make it clear that there are two things we know about moms:
1) The thing most moms really want most is a happy and healthy family, and
2) Moms would be happy with pretty much anything you give them!

That said, here are the final results of our poll:

As you can see, the race was a close one! This is further proof that moms are going to be
happy with whatever way you choose to honor them.

The top answer was a tasty meal prepared for them, not by them. Here are some ideas to making it a meal to remember:

* Consider treating her to breakfast in bed
* Honor her with afternoon tea with a yummy dessert at home
* Grill out while she sits back relaxes
* Make a reservation for her favorite restaurant

Coming in a close 2nd was a gift card to her favorite store or spa. Don't worry about offending her by not having a wrapped gift -- she'll be thrilled with the opportunity to spoil herself with a shopping trip for a new outfit, something special she's had her eye on, or to schedule a much-needed massage.

Tieing for 3rd place is an afternoon of peace and quiet and a handmade card or gift. If you have younger children, the latter is always a safe bet to win Mom's heart. If you want to go with the afternoon of peace option, consider giving Mom a gift of bubble bath and an aromatherapy candle and then treat the kids out to a movie so she can relax for a few hours.
