We are thrilled to present you with some enhancements to AOL's iPad site based on feedback received from users like you.

First off, we've added a Business News section, complete with the most recent market updates, a stock price search field and a shortcut to My Portfolios. Swipe to the left to see additional markets as well as top business news stories.

Secondly, sports fans will rejoice in the Sports News section. Flip through a dozen of the latest headlines from SportingNews with the swipe of your finger.


Next, you'll probably notice that the lead new stories at the top of the page are rotating. We know that this is one of the most popular features on the AOL.com desktop site, so we are pleased to include this functionality to iPad users as well. If the lead story switches too soon for your taste, simply swipe back to where you were and the whole section will automatically pause for you.

Something cool you might spot with the Movies section is the addition of the run time, date and critic score.



There are also some design updates you might notice here and there. For instance, we've updated the search field and the icons at the top of the page so that they are more in keeping with what you see on the AOL.com desktop site.



One quick tip to share -- cookies are needed to set or change a location, or to switch between iPad views. If we detect that you have cookies disabled and you go to set a location or change views, we'll show you a popup message to notify you about the need for cookies.

WHAT'S NEW:

  • Touch-Enabled Gestures - Content on the page is now enabled for tapping (to open or play) and swiping (to see more). Try this out with the main featured stories section at the top of the page - you can swipe through images and headlines, then simply tap to read full article.

  • AOL Mail - Tap on the Mail icon at the top of the page to quickly go to your AOL Mail account. Or, sign in to the page itself to get a dedicated mail preview section so that you can see up to 20 previews of your latest unread messages. AOL.com/local is designed to cover every single city across the U.S. It doesn't matter if you live in the heart of the city or in a rural area, we should have you covered. And if for some reason you aren't able to get information for your ZIP Code, let us know in the comments section below.

If you already have a location set on your AOL homepage, we'll remember that and show you content for that ZIP Code. You can always change your location by simply clicklng the "Change Location" link located at the top of the page and entering in a city and state or ZIP Code.



The AOL.com/local page has 5 main sections:

Weather

We all know that weather impacts us every day so we wanted to provide today's forecast as well as a snapshot for what the rest of the week is looking like. You can click on any of the links to go to AOL Weather for even more detailed information like hourly details and satellite maps.

Latest News

The Latest News section scours local sources to find and display news stories specific to your area. If you live in an area covered by one of AOL's Patch sites, you'll get Patch's great local news coverage. Clicking on the "More Stories from Your Area" link at the bottom of the headlines will load additional stories for you on the page so you can keep up with everything happening in your neighborhood.





Movies

Now that you have your news and weather, it's time for something fun. Movies! The Movies section on the right side of the page will display the closest theaters to your location as well as the movies currently playing, including showtimes and (where available) links to purchase tickets. You can click on the theater name to go to the theater page or any movie title to get reviews, trailers and more. If the link to a showtime is blue, that means you can click to purchase tickets. How great is that?!








Traffic

Another useful piece of local information is having up-to-the-minute traffic at your fingertips. The AOL.com local page gives you a large interactive map that displays the current traffic conditions. (Green means clear sailing, yellow means slow going and red means major headaches.) The map will also show you where there are accidents and roadwork happening. Just hover over any of the triangular icons and more info will be displayed. It's a great resource to check before your morning and afternoon commute.

(Aren't you glad you if you don't have to drive in New York City?!)


Yellow Pages

Lastly, we have an area to search the Yellow Pages for your local area. Here you'll be able to find any business you need. Just enter the type of business (locksmith, restaurant, etc.) and click Search. We'll put your current city, state in for you but if you'd like to search in a different location, just type it into the location ("in") box. Note that searching in a different location won't change your default location for the AOL.com/local page or your AOL.com homepage.

3. To import the file into Firefox, use the menu at the top of the screen and go to Bookmarks...Show all Bookmarks.
4. Click on the Firefox star icon and select Import Bookmarks from HTML... Navigate to your Downloads folder (it's in your home folder) and select bookmarks.html.
5. Your bookmarks will show up in a folder called "Bookmarks" under "Bookmarks Menu".

Follow These Steps for Exporting Your Feeds:
1. Access Favorites by going to http://favorites.aol.com and select Feeds
(You will need to sign in first in order to export your feeds)
2. In the left pane, click Export Feeds at the bottom. The Downloads window will pop up and an xml file will begin to download
3. To import the file into another feeds experience, navigate to its Import Feeds option and select the file to be imported (Note: Most feed readers have an easy-to-use feed import option in their settings area)
